Captain Marvel star Brie Larson has admitted which character she would like to see in the sequel, and it's a fan favourite.

The actress was asked during a press conference who she would like to team up with in a sequel to the movie, declaring that she wants to see Ms Marvel.

"My dream would be that Ms Marvel gets to come into play in the sequel – that's the goal," she said.

Though she didn't say specifically which incarnation of the character she wants, she's most likely referring to Kamala Khan.

The superhero was the first Muslim character to get her own comic book, and was first introduced back in 2013 in Captain Marvel #14.

Khan is known for her shapeshifting abilities, and assumes the mantle of Ms Marvel after her idol Carol Danvers takes up the Captain Marvel moniker.

It could certainly be a possibility that we see the character in the MCU, especially as Marvel boss Kevin Feige said last year that introducing the teen character is "definitely sort of in the works".

"Ms Marvel, which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works," he said. "We have plans for that once we've introduced Captain Marvel to the world."

Captain Marvel hits cinemas on March 8 in the UK and the US.
