Casualty star Amanda Mealing has dismissed claims that she has an eating disorder.

The Connie Beauchamp actress took to Twitter to state: "I'm forced to address something I'd hoped not to. My weight.

"Luckily for some of you & your insensitivity I am not struggling with an eating disorder. I am in extreme & constant back pain and have been for nearly a year.

"Standing for 11 hrs a day takes its toll. End of."

Paul Bradley, who played Elliot Hope on Holby City between 2005 and 2015, replied to the tweet, writing: "Dearest Amanda I'm really sorry to hear that but not surprised. I hobbled about for a year and a half after Holby. It does take a toll. Love you x".

5 News at 5 newsreader Sian Williams also reached out to Amanda. She wrote: "You shouldn't have to do this, Amanda. You are a strong and wonderful woman. Remember the grit that got you through the marathon when we were running together? Go deep, believe you will get through it, we are behind you Xx".

Fans in the replies also said that Amanda shouldn't have had to explain herself, and offered their love and support to the actress.

The star recently hit out at 'snobbery' towards the medical drama, and teased a future return to Holby.

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One.
