Yahoo News Cherries win Premier League comeback award for second straight year
CHERRIES have won the Premier League’s ‘most improbable comeback’ award, for the second year in a row.
Trailing 3-0 at half-time against Luton Town in March, Andoni Iraola’s men stormed back in the second half to triumph 4-3 at Vitality Stadium.
Dominic Solanke and Illia Zabarnyi goals gave Cherries hope, before an Antoine Semenyo brace sealed the remarkable victory.
In doing so, it became just the fifth time in Premier League history a team had won from three goals behind.
The award was given out on the basis of the statistical probability of Cherries winning the match when they were 3-0 down, developed by Stats Perform.
When Ross Barkley fired the Hatters 3-0 down, there was deemed a 0.6 per cent chance of Cherries winning.
Cherries also won the award in the 2022-23 campaign for their 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest, having been 2-0 down.
