Gary Neville has spoken about Rasmus Hojlund's first season at Manchester United amid struggles for other players at Old Trafford.

Neville is currently working as a pundit for ITV during Euro 2024, sharing his expertise alongside the likes of Roy Keane and Graeme Souness. He was on duty once again on Sunday afternoon ahead of Denmark's clash with Slovakia in Group C.

In the build-up to the match, Neville was asked about the impact of Hojlund, both at United and for Denmark. The 21-year-old was United's marquee signing last summer, joining in a £72million deal from Bologna.

He has performed well in his first season at Old Trafford, even if Erik ten Hag's side didn't quite have the campaign they might have hoped for. Hojlund bagged 16 goals in 43 games for the Red Devils, including five in six Champions League games.

However, it's not just his efforts in front of goal that have earned him praise. Hojlund has also received huge plaudits for his overall work rate and commitment to the team during a time when not all of his team-mates have met those same markers.

Neville was keen to stress that point as he touched on the difficulty some of his colleagues have had at Old Trafford. "I think he has done well," Neville began. "When you think about what Manchester United have done to players in the last 10 years, they've broken seasoned internationals who have signed for big money.

"The lack of stability in the club over the last 12 months, all the changes, particularly up at the top, they've got basically no centre-forwards other than him. They've got wide players who were out of form that weren't giving him the type of service he needed.

"But he scored 16 goals in 35 starts and most of all, he stood up that kid. During the tough times in the season he was the one who I thought 'what a personality he's got.' That's all you need.

"I think he should have been supported more by having a more experienced striker alongside him but they couldn't get one in and it was all left to him. I think he's had a good first season and he's got the potential to be something pretty good."

Hojlund had only made 14 appearances for Denmark prior to Euro 2024, scoring seven goals. He'll be hoping to add to both of those columns as the Danes look to improve on their semi-final showing three years ago.
