Child, 1, rushed to hospital after police flagged down on street

A one-year-old child was rushed to hospital this morning after suffering a 'medical episode' in Stretford.

A Greater Manchester Police patrol car was flagged down on Ponsonby Road, near Davyhulme Road East, at around 4.50am. Officers stepped in to help the child who was 'suffering a medical episode'.

A stretch of Davyhulme Road East was cordoned from off Davyhulme Road and Belford Road as emergency crews responded. A car was pictured on the road within the police tape.

The child was then rushed to hospital from the scene. They remain there this afternoon.

A GMP spokesperson said there were 'no suspicious circumstances'. In a statement, the force spokesperson said: "At around 4.50am this morning (Sunday 19 May 2024), one of our patrol vehicles was flagged down and alerted to a child suffering a medical episode while on Ponsonby Road in Stretford, Manchester.

"A one-year-old child remains in hospital. Initial enquiries suggests there are no suspicions circumstances."
