The Miniature Railway attraction is set to reopen in Croxteth Park.

Since November 2023, local Kevin Brown and a small group of volunteers have worked to reinstate the miniature railway that was unused in Croxteth Park for 15 years. Having cleared the track’s route and unearthed the rails, the volunteers found the 90% of the original track remains intact.

A spokesperson said: "It’s not long now until our Miniature Railway reopens after 15 years. We are aiming to have trains running from the end of May and we can’t wait to welcome on board." They added: "It’s been a lovely day at the park testing the train and finishing painting fences.

"We now have the tunnel to finish and the site to tidy. We hope we will be able to start running trains from the end of May. We can’t wait to welcome you back."

Commenting on the update on Facebook, Ashley Ward said: "I used to go on with my grandad on our Sunday outings every time. Now I can take my children on it too , absolutely love it!" Michael Kewn added: "Childhood memory restored."

Councillor Lila Bennet, Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment and Skills said: "I worked at Croxteth Country Park for several years and recall how popular the miniature railway was with visitors and children. As an employee and a local resident I have my own fond memories of my grandchildren having lots of fun on the miniature railway.

"It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since the miniature railway in Croxteth Park closed and I’m sure like me, many in the community have lots of unique memories. Lots of hard work is going into this restoration from a resident who shares his own cherished memories. This is testament to the community spirit in this area and Kevin receives our full support in this endeavour. Together we can breathe life into the past and create new memories for the new generation."
