Chris Brown sparks outrage after giving daughter a pet monkey

The internet has gone ape over Chris Brown’s latest stunt.

He’s only gone and gifted his little girl with a pet monkey.

Chris posted a video on Instagram showing Royalty, three, with the tiny marmoset in a nappy (yes, a nappy) and asks her: ‘Is this your baby?’

But while Royalty’s glee is evident as she cradles the monkey, the video has also angered a lot of animal lovers.

Brown, 28, seemed pleased with the gift, despite not thinking ahead in regards to how the animal will live happy in a suitable environment.

Marmosets are highly active creatures that inhabit the upper canopy of forest trees. Typically, they live in family groups between three and 15, eating the carb-rich tree sap and insects.

People have been quick to blast the singer on his Instagram comments, ranging from ‘sad :-(‘ to lengthier criticism.

One user wrote: ‘This is wrong on so many levels. It perpetuates the idea that wild animals are pets, it funds illegal wildlife trade which is threatening the extinction of thousands of species and it glorifies ignorance. Such a shame that you haven’t educated yourself about the horrors you are contributing to and promoting.’

Another slammed his decision to take it from its mother: ‘it’s not ‘like adoption’. It’s stealing a wild animal from its mother. A monkey will never be happy with only the company of humans as a poor substitute for conspecifics. (Fact, not opinion.)’

Twitter users were similarly unforgiving…

It doesn’t seem like his Hollywood home is the ideal place to raise a monkey, especially one separated from its family to be raised by humans in an unfamiliar environment.

So maybe stop monkeying around, eh, Chris?
