Clapham Junction disruption: Travel chaos after broken down train causes delays and cancellations

London rail passengers face travel disruption today as a broken down train wreaked havoc on the lines.

Passengers travelling between Clapham Junction and Wimbledon faced cancellations and delays due to the blocked lines, South Western Railway confirmed.

The train operator tweeted its apologies to customers on Saturday morning.

It said “all lines” were reopened at around 11.30am, but that issues with the service could be expected until 2pm.

Passengers were warned to check routes before they travel.

One Twitter user described being stuck on a “packed, angry train just outside Clapham Junction”.

Another tweeted: “Just missed our train at Clapham, because of delay at Earlsfield. No explanation. No apology. Definitely not #puttingpassengersfirst.”

One man shared a picture of his disappointed children who’d been excited about a trip to Chessington World of Adventures.

Tagging the theme park he wrote: “Sorry guys but after the 3rd train cancelled at Clapham, and not another until after 12, we'll have to visit another day. Sad day. @nationalrailenq we need a refund please.”

Chessington responded with at least some good news: “OH No! We will definitely be missing you today! Let us know when you plan to visit again and we will arrange a little surprise for you!"
