Clapton crash: Elderly man killed after being hit by car in east London
An elderly man has died after he was hit by a car in Hackney.
Police have closed off part of Upper Clapton Road after the crash between a car and a pedestrian at the junction with Cleveleys Road.
An air ambulance was scrambled and paramedics arrived at the scene at shortly after 10.40am on Wednesday.
The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin are in the process of being informed.
The driver of the car stopped following the crash and is assisting police with their enquiries.
Police are advising motorists to avoid the area as officers investigate what happened.
