Club featured in Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams to host gin festival featuring local distilleries

The Penwortham sports club which played a starring role in Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams will host a beer and gin festival, showcasing the best of local produce this Bank Holiday weekend.

Vernon Carus Sports Club, on Factory Lane, hosts the annual Beer and Gin Festival, featuring more than 20 beers, 10 ciders and 20 gins, sourced from the local area.

Headlining the even, on May 24/25/26 is Penwortham's Fairham Distillery, with three of their gins on offer over the weekend. However there will be gins on offer from eight distilleries - each within 15 miles of the Penwortham.


Admission is free however drinks tokens can be bought once you have purchased your festival glass. Throughout the weekend there will be music and sporting events including cricket matches and entertainment from local artists.

The festival organisers have also teamed up with Woods Farm Shop for the third year running to offer a selection of culinary delights.

In 2022, Vernon Carus sports club hit the limelight when Preston cricketer Freddie Flintoff returned to his home town to motivate a group of local teenagers into a self-made cricket team.

The BBC series captured the hearts of the nation and saw Freddie apply to South Ribble Council to turn around the fortunes of the club on Factory Lane.

The Vernon Carus Beer and Gin Festival takes place from 6pm to 11pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
