Hope’s mum Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) and new beau Phill recently set up home together. But the kindly, mild-mannered man has always seemed too good to be true.
Fiz’s ex-partner Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) has been full of regret since losing her over his short-lived relationship with Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu); but he has tried to be supportive as Fiz moves on with her life.
However, last week Tyrone spotted Phill handing over a mystery envelope in a meeting with an unknown man. Knowing Phill had told Fiz he would be in Leeds for the day, Ty was immediately suspicious.
This turn of events followed an already tough week for Fiz, who was forced to relive her past with Hope’s biological father, the late serial killer John (Graeme Hawley).
Phill’s friend Graham recognised Fiz from the time she was falsely accused of the murders committed by John. John eventually confessed to his part in the three deaths before passing away from injuries via a car crash; but Fiz suffered greatly over his actions.
So when Graham revealed he had been the prosecutor at her trial, Fiz was horrified. She eventually explained all to Phill, who assured her he was already aware of her history and that it didn’t matter to him. But he's clearly up to something.
Tonight on Coronation Street, Tyrone continues to wonder just what Phill's motives are. But when Hope borrows Phill’s laptop, she unwittingly discovers the truth. The troublesome youngster reacts in typical style by hopping into the mini-digger on the driveway of their new house.
An alarmed Phill rushes to stop her, but it’s too late as a defiant Hope pulls a lever, causing the digger to smash the windscreen on Phill’s car.
But what has Hope found out about Phill? What secret is on that laptop, and will it prove Phill to be the villain of the piece? It seems that this bombshell has the power to split him from Fiz; so could this pave the way for a reunion between Fiz and Tyrone?
And what’s next for Hope, whose behaviour is as extreme as ever? Of course, we can’t tell you what happens next; but we can promise an exceptional performance from young star Flanagan. The drama makes way for powerful, moving scenes from McAlpine, too.
Tune in to Coronation Street tonight at 8pm as the game is finally up for Phill.
