Coronation Street: Sarah is 'devastated' as Adam exposes her baby secret
The star chatted about her character's messy storyline.
Coronation Street star Tina O’Brien says her character is "ashamed, devastated, embarrassed, upset, scared" now that husband Adam (Sam Robertson) has learned the big secret about her nightmare situation.
Sarah fell pregnant following an affair with Damon Hay (Ciarán Griffiths), but her uncle Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) tampered with the paternity results letter to claim that Adam is the father.
Tonight on the ITV soap Adam found out the truth and used a gender reveal party to expose Damon as the baby’s father.

With the pair’s marriage imploding, star O’Brien described Sarah’s state of mind at this point.
“She obviously didn’t know where it had come from," O'Brien said at a recent press event. "She didn’t know who had planted it or why. There was a lot of confusion and she was feeling very, very sick to her stomach.”
Would Sarah have ever expected such a shocking move from Adam? “No. He’s a solicitor, he’s very kind of… She’s usually the one who is very up and down.
"He can get cross and angry and stuff but he’s usually very level headed. She wouldn’t have seen this coming from him.

“Although what he did was out of character and what he did was very cruel and hateful, there is a bit of me that thinks as well: well she behaved appallingly so she can’t start, you know…‘those in glass houses’ and all that malarkey.
"Yes, he behaved inappropriately but so did she. Maybe in a weird way it kind of levels up the bad behaviour. I don’t think it’s affected her love for him. She wants to be with him.”
Teasing the aftermath of the drama, O’Brien revealed: “I think she knows her marriage is over but she’s desperately hoping that maybe she can talk him round.
“He’s still very, very hurt. And also she’s a nightmare! She [says], well you’ve hurt me and you’ve cheated on me and you’ve done this and that, and he’s like, ‘we weren’t together'.
"She is very quick to be defensive. She’s not like, ‘I’m SORRY!’, she’s sort of thrown it back a bit.
“I kind of get that,” she shared. “But there’s a time and place! Reel it in, lady! Obviously it doesn’t go too well. But it’s too soon, there’s too much that’s happened, of course he’s not going to even take on board what she’s got to say.”
Later in the week, Sarah is rushed to hospital with stomach pain. “I think she’s really scared,” O’Brien told us. “Everything that’s happened, the one thing that she was solid about was that she’d had an early scan.
“She’d seen this pregnancy and regardless if it was Damon’s or Adam’s she felt that she already loved this little tiny person growing inside her and she desperately wanted to have that baby.
"It was something that just clicked with her. Regardless of how Adam is behaving she is very scared because she wants this baby.”
Viewers will have to tune in to find out what happens next, but the star also reflected on another huge new element in this story. Asked about Sarah’s reaction to the dangerous Stephen’s interference, she admitted: “Yeah, I think it's definitely sown a little seed of something. Obviously, at the moment, she's probably got so many of her own problems.”

It seems that Sarah might revisit those concerns later down the line, should secret serial killer Stephen do anything more to raise her suspicions.
“At the time, she was like, 'What?' And it was how blasé he was about it as well, she couldn't believe what he'd done and I think that kind of made her go, 'Oh, my God, you're quite ruthless and brutal'. And so, I think that's been stored away.”
In happier news, earlier this year, O’Brien was thrilled to accept a British Soap Award on behalf of her on-screen Platt clan, who scooped the prize for Best Family. “It was honestly a genuine massive sense of pride,” she beamed.
“I love Helen [Worth, who plays Gail] and Sue [Nicholls, who portrays Audrey] so much. I started on that show when I was 16 years old and Helen has shown me nothing but love since day one and what she's managed to do is create a feeling on set that we are a collaboration.
“You can work with other people and they can be a bit ego, can be a bit this, or they could be a bit that. But Helen is all about making something that works and I think it's enabled us to actually find our own little faux family.
"I genuinely sometimes spend more time with the Platt family than I get to with my own family, and I adore them all. And Ben [Price, who plays Nick] is the one I'll turn to for advice. And, you know, we do have our own little 'Platt Chat' in real life,” she revealed.
“So, to go up and accept the award on behalf of them was quite nice actually. It meant a lot. I felt very lucky. And I think the audience love them because there's a lot of history there – Gail has had a lot of relationships, she's had a lot of ups and downs. Her mum Audrey can do it all. She's comedy, she's…ah, they’re just brilliant. I'm biased, but I think we're the best!”
