Coronation Street stars Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price didn't hold back when Colson Smith revealed how much he'd spent on going to see singer-songwriter James Blunt at one of his recent gigs on the podcast they host.

Colson, 25, Ben, 52, and Jack, 36, front the podcast On the Sofa, on which the trio "tell stories about their lives, work and everything in-between". They rebranded the podcast from Sofa Cinema Club, which centred around the films they had been watching - and whether they loved or loathed them

But on the rebranded podcast, a recent episode saw them discuss musician James, 50, following a concert back in March which Colson attended after he made it to the Celebrity Big Brother final.

The actor, known for playing Craig Tinker in the ITV soap, shared that he had attended the concert at the AO Arena in Manchester days prior to filming the episode. He said: "I had an emotional experience over the weekend. [I] went to watch [James]."

His pal Ben - who plays Nick Tilsley on Corrie - didn't seem impressed though as he responded: "That must be a drag. He's only got that one song [You're Beautiful] and once he sings that, everyone's like 'Right, are we off?' and I bet he left it to the end. He's funny but he's only got one song."

Colson dismissed the suggestion, reacting: "I've always loved [him]. He has a multitude of bangers by the way." Ben asked for examples and his colleague went on to name songs by the singer such as Wisemen, Bonfire Heart and 1973.

Ben requested a rendition of Wisemen, which was released in 2005, and Colson subsequently performed part of the song. Sharing his thoughts, Jack - who plays David Platt on Corrie - appeared to state: "Yeah it's not bad that one."

During the performance by Colson, Ben said: "When he sings, he's slightly nasal." Jack replied: "He's impersonating." Ben reacted: "Oh, he's good." Following the rendition, Ben said: "So [James] we've just worked out has only got one tune." Colson seemed to defend James by reacting: "No."

Jack teased: "Even his biggest fans have never said 'I love [him]'." Later in the episode, it appeared that Ben impersonated James and teased that his fans were "f***ing suckers" who had heard "one tune" when they were teenagers.

Colson told his co-hosts on the podcast that he paid £120 for two tickets to see the BRIT Award winner perform at the arena in the city recently. Ben was then heard laughing and went on to ask if his pal got a free programme.

Colson also shared whilst discussing the concert: "The reason I went was because ... I've not been in my feels but I feel like I need ... like I'm just ... I'm tired and I'm emotional, yeah, and I thought what will cure it? I need a big singalong and I thought [James] might like proper get me going, which is what he does - he just plays depressing music for two hours and you sing along but even that didn't cure me."

A clip from the episode, which was released last month, was shared on the podcast's Instagram account on Tuesday. It was shared in promotion of the trio's live shows, with the caption reading: "Sorry is that [Colson] or [James]? You might hear Colson's dulcet tones at our live show this week!"

The trio are set to take to the stage at the Dancehouse in Manchester on Saturday (May 4) for a special edition of the podcast at the venue. They will then be at Bush Hall in London the following weekend on May 18.

A synopsis for the shows teases: "[Join the trio] for two special live podcast episodes celebrating Colson's time in Celebrity Big Brother! Jack, Ben and the audience will get the chance to ask Colson ANYTHING about his time in the house... and there will be some of your 'fravourite' On The Sofa features thrown in too."
