Coronation Street has confirmed more details about Josh Tucker's storyline being revisited in the New Year.

Cast and crew were recently spotted filming some dramatic court scenes for rapist Josh, who could finally be about to face justice for his dark crimes.

Official spoilers released by the show have now revealed that Josh will go on trial in episodes airing on Friday, January 3.

This follows an emotional and dangerous Christmas for many of the families on the Street, so the court date is coming at a very difficult time.

Coronation Street's official spoiler reads: "As Josh's trial begins, painful memories resurface.

"But will proceedings in court be overshadowed by the ripple effects of Christmas Day, which are still casting dark shadows over the street?"

Ryan Clayton, who plays Josh, was pictured filming the court scenes alongside co-star Jack P Shepherd – aka David – late last month.

Viewers know that Josh is currently in prison awaiting trial after a man reported him for rape.

This has led to the Crown Prosecution Service deciding to revisit David's rape accusation against Josh, which was previously dropped due to insufficient evidence.

In November, Josh was pressured into dropping a false allegation that David had stabbed him when they were locked up in the same jail.

With his name cleared, David was allowed to return home to his family and tied the knot with his partner Shona Ramsey at the Bistro.

Ryan recently spoke to Digital Spy about returning to Coronation Street, telling us: "I've known since quite early on in the year, to be honest! It's always an absolute delight. Even during my initial stint in Corrie, my storylines were extended and you do feel valued when that happens. It's certainly better than not being asked back!

"It was lovely to hear that the show had another storyline in mind. I'd spoken to the producer, Iain MacLeod, before I left last year and we did talk about the possibility then that Josh might return.

"We were both on the same page that Josh probably wasn't going to change his ways. It's also funny how it's worked out – almost exactly a year after I left."

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday, January 3 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
