People over the age of 70 are among those most vulnerable to the coronavirus, along with those suffering from existing health conditions and pregnant people.

All three groups have been urged by the government to be particularly stringent in following social distancing guidelines.

Around 1.5 million “extremely vulnerable” people are also being asked to go further and stay at home for an extended period, including many over-70s.

There are 17 local authority areas where at least one in five of the population are likely to be 70 or over, with North Norfolk (24.3%), Rother (24.0%) and East Devon (22.6%) topping the list.
