Coronation Street star Charles Lawson has pulled out of a theatre tour due to illness.

The actor, who plays Jim McDonald on the soap, suffered a mini-stroke on stage eight weeks ago.

Lawson fell ill while performing as the lead in a national tour of Rebus: Long Shadows in early October. Reports said that he appeared to forget his lines before announcing that he was feeling faint and was helped from the stage by his co-stars.

"Not to put too fine a point on it, I had a TIA (transient ischaemic attack) on stage, which you probably know is a mini-stroke," he explained to The Mirror in October.

"We opened in Edinburgh playing to a full house and I was halfway through the second half, the climax of the play, and I went deaf.

"I was aware that John Stahl was saying his lines but I thought they were from a different play. For two minutes I had no idea where I was, then I woke up in the wings. It was a little disturbing to say the least."

Despite pulling out of several performances, Lawson reassured fans that he was okay, saying: "I've been given medication which I'll be on for the rest of my life. But I can assure you I'm in good nick."

The Daily Star reports that Lawson has now pulled out of the production altogether, however, with actor Ron Donachie lined up to replace him.

Digital Spy has reached out to Lawson's representatives for confirmation.
