The soap characters with the most marriages

Soapland loves a good wedding, with Coronation Street character Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) set to head down the aisle again this week as she prepares to marry Phill Whittaker.

But the actor is far from the only soap cast member to have had weddings feature more than once in her storylines.

We take a look at the most married characters in our favourite soaps.

Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) – 7 weddings

Is there anyone in Weatherfield who hasn't been married to Steve?

The Coronation Street star is soap's most-married man, with brides including Vicky Ardeen (Chloe Newsome), Karen Phillips (Suranne Jones) twice, Becky Granger (Katherine Kelly), Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) also twice.

He was engaged to Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) too, although they never actually made it down the aisle.

Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) – 7 weddings on screen, 11 weddings in total

Emmerdale is also harbouring a lothario, in the form of Bob Hope who has had seven weddings and fathered seven children.

He has also married two of his brides twice (Jean and Viv) and saw his marriage to Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) disintegrate at their reception when she realised he was still in love with Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) who he'd been having an affair with during Brenda's treatment for a brain tumour.

We might only have seen seven of Bob's weddings take place on screen, but if you take into account his backstory marriages from before he arrived in the village, things get even more unbelievable.

Ever-the-groom Bob was apparently married and divorced four more times before he even arrived in Emmerdale, pushing his character's wedding total up to 11.

Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) – 6 weddings

The Hollyoaks legend has been to her fair share of soap weddings...mostly as the bride.

Like Steve McDonald, Mercedes' wedding tally includes marrying one of her grooms twice and worryingly, her romantic past includes three dead husbands and two dead fiances.

She very nearly convinced sister Carmel's partner Calvin Valentine (Ricky Whittle) to marry her instead, but he chose Carmel instead and was killed on their wedding day by McQueen cousin Theresa (Jorgie Porter).

Mercedes has actually attended seven of her own weddings - but unfortunately was only married six times as she was jilted at the altar at wedding number five.

Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) – 6 weddings

He's spent decades on Ramsay Street, so it's unsurprising that Paul's storylines have included a good number of marriages.

Paul has married into many a well-known Erinsborough family including the Scullys and the Willises, often with disastrous results, but his wife tally looks set to stay on six now that Neighbours is drawing to a close.

Gail Platt (Helen Worth) – 6 weddings

Some of Coronation Street's most memorable scenes have involved whoever Gail was married to at the time, with some pretty disastrous unions to her name.

Gail married first husband Brian Tilsley (Christopher Quinten) twice, but her marriage to Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) is probably the most memorable after he turned out to be a serial killer and tried to kill off Gail, her children Sarah and David and granddaughter Bethany by driving them into a canal.

She also memorably married Michael Rodwell, played by Les Dennis, who she met when she caught him burgling her house.
