A hugely popular events venue will soon be closing down in Coventry. Rialto Plaza, on Moseley Avenue in Coundon, will shut for the final time in August before reopening the space later this year with what bosses say will be a 'completely new offering.'

Bosses announced the upcoming closure of the Rialto saying the decision had stemmed from the need to adapt to the 'changing culture in the hospitality landscape.' It will be closing for good on Saturday, August 3.

A series of events will be held in July with the finale being the UB42 tribute act, who were one of the first bookings when the Coundon-based venue opened back in 2012. Rum and Reggae Live and a Dirty Dancing Party Night are also set to be held next month and will cost just £1 to attend.

A spokesman for the Rialto Plaza said: “We are saddened to announce the news that we are set to close our doors for the final time on Saturday, August 3. One of our proudest achievements is the ability to attract an amazing and diverse audience night after night!

“The Rialto has been a great venue for the city over the years; both ourselves and previous management have brought some amazing shows to the city for an independent venue, and we cannot thank our loyal customers enough for their continued support. We would love to see as many familiar faces as possible over the last remaining weeks at The Rialto for 'The Last Dance.'”

The Rialto Plaza, which opened in 2012, has been a hub for live music and events over the years, including Bongos Bingo, Brunch Baby and the Hot Water Comedy Club. It has also welcomed the likes of Tyson Fury, Jason Manford, Russell Kane, Trevor Nelson, Martin Kemp, and Martha Reeves.

Bosses have announced plans to reopen the space later this year with what they say will be a 'completely new offering.' Although details have not yet been confirmed, they said they are 'committed to bringing people together in a safe and friendly environment.'

A spokesman said: “Moving forward, customers want something new. In a post-pandemic world, nightlife has changed, and we recognise the need to adapt. We have listened to what our customers want and are committed to developing the space in line with new tastes and demands. A new era beckons, and we are thrilled to be part of the developing hospitality scene in Coventry, the way people go out is changing, and we look forward to being at the heart of culture in the city.”
