Yahoo News COVID-19: Singapore to trial business travel pass for senior executives
SINGAPORE — A new business travel pass will soon be available to senior executives in Singapore who need to travel regularly for official and business purposes, as part of a new pilot scheme.
Travellers on this pass will be allowed to travel to a wide range of countries for work, without having to serve a Stay-Home Notice upon their return to Singapore, the multi-ministry taskforce on COVID-19 announced on Wednesday (23 September). Instead, they will be given the option of doing a COVID-19 test and self-isolating until the test results are out.
However, they will be required to follow a strictly controlled itinerary when abroad. More details of the pass will be provided by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
At a virtual press briefing, Education Minister and taskforce co-chair Lawrence Wong was asked how many of these passes would be issued, and which countries it would cover. Wong would only say that “a small number” will be distributed to start with, through the economic agencies.
He stressed that the pass would not supersede the rules of individual countries. “These travelers will have to comply with whatever travel restrictions or measures that are in place in that country that they are visiting.
“So that's the whole idea of a travel pass - to allow senior executives who are based in Singapore with extensive regional or international responsibilities to have a bit more flexibility to travel for their work.”
