Cumnock set for two months disruption as water works begin

Road users in Cumnock are being warned of two months of disruption as Scottish Water carry out upgrades.

Both Underwood Road and Auchinleck Road outside the Barony Campus will be affected when works commence from Monday, July 1.

The works have been timed to largely coincide with the school summer holidays as pupils finish up on Friday, June 28.

However, there may be some crossover with the new school term starting on Wednesday, August 21 as the eight-week programme of works is scheduled to end the week that pupils go back to school.

When the works begin on July 1, a single-lane priority system will be in place for vehicles on Underwood Road. Then, from July 15, traffic management will be in place along Auchinleck Road near the Barony Campus to allow for the safe completion of the work.

Upgrades to water services in Cumnock as part of the works will include the installation of new water pipes which Scottish Water say will “support community growth and ensure residents continue to enjoy clear, fresh drinking water, and reduce the chance of pipes bursting”.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “Road users are being advised of some traffic management to enable Scottish Water upgrade works on the local water network in Cumnock.

“Work will commence from Monday, July 1 and will take approximately 8 weeks to complete. These works are not expected to have any impact on normal water supplies in the area.

“Local residents and road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out.”
