If you need a little heartwarming and some amazingly cute pictures to cheer you on this Monday morning, look no further.

This beautiful sweet baby orangutan named Udin was nearly a goner - but is now thriving, thanks to a dedicated team of animal lovers.

Tragically, he was described by vets as being suicidal, after his beloved mum died.

She was killed as she tried to protect him. It is thought she was stabbed or shot.

Concerned rescuers said the adorable orangutan has “tried to die several times”, since she passed away.

Since her death, he was sold to a farmer who kept him as a pet, locked in a tiny cage.

When he was rescued by the International Animal Rescue (IAR) team, he refused to eat or drink, due to trauma.

And he showed no interest in his surroundings, at his new lovely home at the Borneo-based IAR Orangutan Centre.

He now sleeps next to vets, who even gave him his own teddy bear to snuggle.

A statement from the centre said: “Udin tried to die several times, but we wouldn’t let him and just kept interacting with him and doing lots of physiotherapy and exercises, so he could not ignore us and had to learn to trust us as his sole link to survival.

“Finally there was a glimmer of light in his sad dark eyes.”

The baby ape - who had once “completely given up on life”, according to IAR chief executive Alan Knight - is one of 86 orphaned orangutans being cared for there.

Somebody pass the tissues, please?
