Yahoo News Daisy Ridley Marries Latex Futurism With Ladylike Twists in Bespoke Dress for ‘Young Woman and the Sea’ U.K. Screening

Daisy Ridley opted for a sleek look for her appearance at the “Young Woman and the Sea” screening in London on Wednesday. The actress, who stars in the new Disney film, fashioned a latex outfit with a classic silhouette.

For the screening, Ridley wore a custom piece courtesy of Atsuko Kudo. Ridley’s short-sleeve frock featured a plunging neckline, belted waist and flared skirt with a hemline just below the knee. The dress also featured slightly puffed sleeves for an extra feminine touch.
Ridley’s dress contrasted with her heels, which featured an off-white color with modern zipper detailing. When it came to her accessories, Ridley fashioned glittering earrings and rings by Boucheron.
Ridley’s bob was coiffed in a slicked back look by London-based hairstylist Dayaruci, with makeup that included bold, cat eyeliner by Kelly Cornwell. Ridley’s look was curated by stylist Leith Clark along with Delaney Williams. Clark previously collaborated with Rosamund Pike, Katherine Waterston and Lily Rabe, among other A-list clients.
Latex has been an emerging trend over the course of the last several years. In January 2016, Kudo made the prognostication that “latex is the future” during the Mercedes-Benz autumn key visual. Kudo created the azure rubber ensembles for the stars of the 2016 season’s fashion week campaign: model Natasha Poly and the Mercedes-Benz SL.
Years after Kudo’s comments, the latex and leather trend emerged at the 2024 Brit Awards last March. Stars like Dua Lipa, Luke Evans and Joanne Froggatt fashioned variations on the trend in shades of black, not dissimilar from Ridley’s look at the “Young Woman and the Sea” screening.

Disney’s “Young Woman and the Sea” stars Ridley as competitive swimmer Trudy Ederle, who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel in 1926. The film hits theaters Friday.
