Dakota Johnson has put an end to rumours that she and Jamie Dornan disliked each other by saying they “will be friends forever”.

The pair filmed many intimate scenes together while playing couple Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades trilogy, but were rocked by reports that their real-life relationship was not as rosy as their on-screen one.

She said: “I feel we will be friends forever. Jamie and I have gone through this whole journey together and he is the closest to knowing what the experience has been like and vice versa.

“If we didn’t get along as well as we do it would have been so much more difficult.

“Shooting intimate scenes is not comfortable, and they are amplified as the story moves on; so if I hadn’t trusted him or felt safe it would have been a nightmare.”

Johnson, 28, also said filming Fifty Shades Freed back to back with the second film in the series, Fifty Shades Darker, helped the cast and crew.

She said: “It’s easier just to keep going instead of breaking for months to do something completely different; although it was a bit confusing at times, as we would flip back and forth between both movies.

“But I’m glad we did it that way, because it gave me creative freedom and the ability to move on.”

On her character in the films, she said: “I see her as a very honourable woman... smart, tough, dignified and graceful, an inspiring woman and a good person.”
