Dale Winton had a particularly traumatic childhood after losing both parents
In the wake of TV icon Dale Winton’s passing, the star had a particularly traumatic upbringing, having lost both his parents at a young age.
The 62-year-old died this week, much to the shock of his friends and neighbours who said they saw a white van move him out of his London home just weeks prior to his death.
But his early life was hard for the future TV personality, after losing both his parents.
Dale lost his mother, Shree, to suicide. She was an actress and took her own life just days after his 21st birthday.
She’d been battling clinical depression her entire life and after overdosing on pills, she left a ‘do not disturb’ sign on her bedroom door.
However, his dad, Gary, passed away when Dale was just 13 – some eight years earlier. Tragically, Gary died on the day of his son’s Bar Mitzvah, as the pair are said to have had something of a difficult relationship.
The TV star’s parents divorced when he was just 10-years-old, and on Loose Women in 2016 spoke openly about his painful childhood and his own battle with depression – the thing that killed his mother.
‘I always thought, “Get over yourself”,’ he said on the show two years ago.
‘But my mum died of it.’
‘It (depression) exists and anybody out there who has had it knows it exists.
‘I didn’t want to put one foot in front of the other but for a couple of really good friends.’
