Dancing on Ice's 2018 winner Jake Quickenden has spoken out about the show's 'curse', saying he understands how break-ups can happen during the series.

In an interview with The Sun, Jake said: "They (producers) always put you with maybe who you can… maybe you’ll get on, but most people are coupled up and nobody wants to ruin a relationship.

“But you can see why it might happen, you spend a lot of time with people, dancing and stuff.”

Although, the X Factor contestant added that the ice rink isn't exactly the sexiest of places, especially when you're in the high-pressure situation of learning difficult routines.

"You’re not warm and in a nice studio sweating, like Strictly," Jake said. "You’re freezing thinking about if you fall or drop someone in a lift there’s a good chance of injury.

“Everything’s shrivelled up. Do you know what I mean? It’s not the sexiest of places, to be honest.”

Shortly after his win, Jake split from his girlfriend Danielle Fogarty, but he said it had nothing to do with his time on the show.

“That was totally separate," he said. "It had nothing to do with that at all. The Strictly curse is only a curse if you let it.”

Jake's comments come after pro skater Vanessa Bauer, who he scooped the trophy with last year, was reported to have split from her long-term boyfriend Louis Nathaniel.

The news of the break-up didn't go down well with Megan Barton-Hanson, the girlfriend of Vanessa's current partner Wes Nelson.

In a now deleted Instagram story, Megan wrote: "Love that you decide to announce your breakup with your boyfriend on the night of your first performance with my boyfriend!

"You've never reached out to me once or invited me to watch you train, it pained you to introduce yourself to me last night you didn't even look me in the eye LOL hope the tactical breakup got you the headlines you wanted."

Dancing on Ice continues this Sunday (January 20) on ITV.
