Former Pussycat Doll group member Melody Thornton is just weeks away from her Dancing on Ice debut and the chances are she will face similar backlash that fellow ex Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts experienced while on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Despite Roberts scoring phenomenally well with the Strictly judges, she found herself in the bottom two for three consecutive weeks. She was widely trolled online for having an ‘unfair’ advantage due to her dancing background, and while certainly a hit with the judges, failed to win over the British public.
However, Thornton told MailOnline that she isn’t worried about experiencing the same criticism, and even claims she’s ‘not a dancer.’
The 34-year-old Arizona, USA native said: “I did think that I might get that but the good thing is that I’m not a dancer I get to tell that story, I’m the only person from that group who’s not a dancer.”
While Thornton’s entertainment background prior to her Pussycat Dolls fame did primarily revolve around singing, her seven years spent in the group did of course consist of extensive and often complex dance routines.
She also admitted in the same interview that Roberts has not reached out to give her advice on her upcoming Dancing on Ice debut. Her former bandmate served as a Dancing on Ice judge in both 2013 and 2014.
“I have picked up things without her even telling me so watching her go through Strictly, I know she judged this show, but she hasn’t given me any tips because she’s been busy as hell!” she said.
Thornton has worked primarily in the UK since the group disbanded in 2010. She has appeared on several British reality series, including Celebs Go Dating and Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls.
Dancing on Ice starts on ITV on Sunday 6th January 2019 at 6pm.
