Daniel Radcliffe panicked during 'nightmare' Broadway flub: 'Sweat like I never experienced before'

The "Merrily We Roll Along" actor grabbed his costar Jonathan Groff during the moment "like he was the only thing anchoring me to the planet."

The boy who lived, came to ... flub.

Daniel Radcliffe could have used a little Harry Potter magic recently when he messed up while performing Merrily We Roll Along on Broadway. The actor revealed how he panicked during the "nightmare" moment during a new interview on CBS Mornings.

"[It] went really, really wrong the other night," Radcliffe said. "I jumped a full two minutes of the song. I just took my eye off the ball for a minute and was suddenly like, 'Oh god, this is really a nightmare.'"

He turned to his costar Jonathan Groff for support, although he wasn't able to ask for it verbally so he resorted to other methods.

"I stared at Jonathan Groff and I grabbed him, so hard, like he was the only thing anchoring me to the planet," Radcliffe said. "I think I genuinely felt like I might just disappear down a hole. But then, sweat. Sweat like I have never experienced before. I sit in the chair the whole number, I don't move, and I was sweatier than I have been after full workouts."

Unfortunately he couldn't shake off that moment during the rest of the performance. "I spent the rest of the show just being like, 'What's the point?'" Radcliffe said with a laugh. "I was really relying on [costars] Jonathan and Lindsay [Mendez] to keep me going."

But ironically, Radcliffe believes it's moments like that flub that push him to new heights as an actor. "I think I have the most fun and I'm at my best when I'm a little bit scared that it's all going to go horribly wrong at any minute," he said.

Radcliffe, Groff, and Mendez are all nominated for Tony awards, and Radcliffe is "thrilled" they're each being highlighted for their work in Merrily We Roll Along. "I'm more sort of ambivalent about my own winning — I will burn the building to the ground if Jonathan Groff doesn't win," he revealed. "Everyone else in the category is amazing, that is true, I'm just very biased here."
