Leeds United will be hoping to end their Championship season with a victory as they take on Southampton at Wembley this Sunday for a place in the Premier League

The Whites thrashed Norwich City at Elland Road last Thursday evening to confirm their place at the home of football after a goalless first leg. Their opponents also overcame a 0-0 score-line against West Bromwich Albion, beating Carlos Corberan's side 3-1 at St Mary's 24 hours later.

Daniel Farke will lead his side out to their first fixture under the Wembley arch for the first time since their League One play-off final defeat to Doncaster Rovers in 2008. For the Saints, they return to the capital seven years on from their Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United.

A win for either side would secure an immediate return to the top flight having both suffered relegation last term along with Leicester City. The implications for both sides are huge, with Leeds owners 49ers Enterprises acknowledging key sales may be needed should they fail to overcome Russell Martin's side.

But should promotion to the Premier League be achieved, it sets up a potentially busy summer transfer window for the Whites, with a number of players already being linked with a move to Elland Road. One of those names has been Borussia Dortmund's Marius Wolf, who is believed to have the same agent as Georginio Rutter.

Speaking on talkSPORT this week, pundit Darren Bent believes that Leeds should pursue a deal for striker Ben Brereton Diaz. The 25-year-old spent the second half of the season on loan with Sheffield United from Villarreal, scoring six times in 14 appearances for the Blades.

The Chilean international made his name in the Championship, starting his career with Nottingham Forest before making the move to Blackburn Rovers in 2019. Brereton Diaz went on to score 47 goals in 117 appearances for the Lancashire club before completing a move to Spain, but he was unable to hit the ground running in La Liga.

His form for the Blades has showcased the obvious talents the striker possesses, with a permanent move likely on the cards this summer. And Bent believes the striker is an absolute no brainer not only for Leeds, but for any of the promoted sides due to his impressive goal scoring tally during his time at Bramall Lane.

He said: “I like Ben Brereton Diaz. If I am a newly promoted side going up, he is definitely one I would look at because his movement is good. He got six in 14. Nearly one in two. At Sheffield United. Come on.

“He went away to Villarreal, didn’t really play and then came back to Sheffield United. He is definitely one, if I am Ipswich, Leeds or Southampton. I think, yes, he is definitely I would say, yeah (too good for the Championship).”

It would not be the first time that the 25-year-old has been linked with a switch to the Whites. During his time at Ewood Park, Brereton Diaz was linked with a move to Leeds, but the Lancashire club wanted around £25 million to complete the January move.
