David Attenborough has helped a super fan to 'save the planet by recycling clothes' and has boosted her bank balance in the process. Aimee Watson has enlisted the Planet Earth star's help to increase her Vinted sales and fund her honeymoon to Mauritus.

The 33-year-old was trying to sell unwanted items uncovered in a clear-out but had failed to gain much interest. But when she popped into her home gym, she found inspiration in the shape of a cardboard cut-out of the TV presenter, which her brother had bought her for Christmas in 2021.

On a whim, Aimee decided to dress the cardboard cut-out in one of her shirts - and when it fit, she snapped a picture and posted it on Vinted. Her views shot up instantly and she has now shifted up to 15 of her bags, jumpers and shirts in a week after using the broadcaster as a 'model'.

Aimee, who sent up her Vinted shop three weeks ago, said: "I posted a few items and I kept refreshing to see if anyone had viewed them but there was nothing. I looked at other items and saw others had so many views and favourites, I was conscious the longer you leave your items the harder it becomes to sell them."

She continued: "I went into my home gym and saw David 'standing' there and thought it wouldn't harm to try. It was to get notice originally, if I sell a jumper that is similar to others, using his photo makes people stop in their tracks and check it out.

“He's helped me sell a lot of items. I've had around 80 comments from people mentioning David, they have said it's made them laugh and made their day. I've always said if it can put a smile on just one person's face then it's been a good thing."

Aimee, who contacted David Attenborough as part of a school project in 2001 but never heard back, said she'd love to thank him for his help as she "couldn’t have done it without him". She said she'd already made enough to fund a honeymoon to Mauritius with husband Adam and joked: "Hopefully he wouldn't want any commission."

The teacher, who lives in Staffordshire, added: "I hope it makes him smile - and he'd be all for recycling clothes, and saving the planet."
