David de Gea to Celtic transfer WOULD be considered by keeper with Chris Mepham on the agenda – Parkhead bulletin

David de Gea WOULD consider a shock move to Celtic this summer - because the club have the guarantee of Champions League football next season.

That is the view of former Parkhead hero Andy Walker - who insists that the prospect of a move to the Scottish Premiership champions would "turn on" the former Manchester United goalkeeper. The Spanish stopper has been out of the game for a year after opting not to sign with a club following his departure from Old Trafford - and has been training with English non-league side Altrincham FC to maintain his fitness.

With Brendan Rodgers on the look-out for a new No. 1 following Joe Hart's retirement, Walker reckons that 33-year-old could be the perfect fit at Celtic Park. He told the Go Radio Football Show: He is still out of contract and the great thing about Celtic just now is they can offer any player the Champions League. That is a turn on for a lot of players.

"I know that De Gea has made ridiculous sums of money in his career but maybe the fact that he is out of contract will work for all parties. I wouldn’t rule out a big signing for Celtic - someone that has got a name, like De Gea who has a name that would excite people."

While De Gea may be a dream deal for many punters, he is not the only goalkeeper to be linked with Celtic. Sparta Prague's Peter Vindahl Jensen believed to be a key target.

According to Football Scotland, Celtic are in negotiations with the Czech side over a deal for the Danish stopper, who only completed a permanent switch from Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar back in March. The report states that boss Rodgers is a big fan of the 6ft 5" keeper.

Vindahl Jensen is under contract in the Czech capital on a multi-year deal and it is claimed Sparta "are reluctant to part company" with the 26-year-old, and will hold "out for a sizeable seven figure fee" for the former Denmark U21 international.

Goalkeeper is not the only area that Celtic are looking to bolster with Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham also said to be on the agenda. The 26-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular slot in the first team in that time frame and was restricted to just 10 Premier League outings last season.

The Daily Mail now claim that Brendan Rodgers has identified the Wales international as a potential target to bolster his defensive options - although the Hoops are yet to make an official approach. The report also adds that Bournemouth will be looking for around £8million for the player, who is into the final 12 months of his contract at the Vitality Stadium.
