Based on characters created for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner and set in The Sandman universe, the story follows phantom besties Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (The Lodge‘s Jayden Revri) — teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death — as they solve mysteries.
They’ll do anything to stick together, including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Hollyoaks’ Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Expats’ Yuyu Kitamura), they crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.
Rounding out the ensemble are Briana Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) as Jenny the Butcher, Ruth Connell (Supernatural, Doom Patrol) as the Night Nurse and Jenn Lyon (Claws) as Esther. Lukas Gage (YOU), David Iacono (The Flight Attendant) and Caitlin Reilly (Hacks) all guest-star.
The show was first ordered to series by Max in April 2022 but landed at Netflix in February 2023 — reportedly in part because it no longer fit with DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the DC comic book movie and TV universe.
