Declan Donnelly is nothing if not loyal.

He took aim at Simon Cowell’s nasty barb at I’m A Celebrity contestant Fleur East during the X Factor final during the show last night.

Fleur was taking part in the ‘Gore Seasons Pizza’ task, in which she was strapped to a giant pizza base, before being covered in revolting creatures and rotten tomatoes.

To release the stars needed to exchange for food for the camp, she had to batter a series of piñatas with a massive rolling pin.

“Picture Simon Cowell’s face,” Dec told the singer, after which she managed to land the task’s full 10 stars.

Cowell took a needless potshot at the singer during Saturday night’s final of The X Factor.

Speaking to finalist Scarlett Lee, he said: “I don’t want you in the jungle in two years drinking worm juice. I want you either on Broadway, [the] West End, [or] selling records.”

Host Dermot O’Leary then rubbed it in a little more, adding: “‘It’s a good point Simon makes. You know he doesn’t want you in two years’ time on I’m A Celebrity, he wants you singing and doing well.”

It was all clearly aimed at Fleur, who was even one of his own acts on the show, leading many viewers to conclude that if indeed Fleur had failed at her singing career, perhaps Mr Cowell wouldn’t be entirely blameless.
