Delivery driver who stabbed random French tourist to death while high on drink and drugs jailed for life
A man who stabbed a French tourist to death after going on a 24-hour cocaine and booze binge has been jailed for life.
Nicholas Foy, a delivery driver from south east London, killed Laurent Volpe in a completely random attack.
The 49-year-old Frenchman, a nuclear scientist, was on his way to visit his family before being attacked by Foy.
Mr Volpe, who had two children, was in the UK on a two week holiday.
He was stabbed in the stomach with a large kitchen knife which passed through his liver.
After killing the Frenchman, Foy, 39, who was wearing only a pink pair of shorts, ran through the streets threatening witnesses.

He also punched an officer after police were called and when taken to hospital for self-inflicted knife wounds, Foy headbutted another policeman.
The court heard that Foy had consumed 4.5 grams of cocaine during the binge. He also drunk five pints of lager, a litre of Jack Daniels whiskey and rum.
Prosecutor Susanne Alavi said: ‘Laurent Volpe was on his way to see his family and happened to walk past Foy who indiscriminately selected him as a victim.’
Foy told the court he was aggressive when he took drugs and drank and could not control his temper.
‘Yet he chose to take this dangerous cocktail before stabbing Mr Volpe to death. This was a callous and, in the event, unsuccessful way of seeking to absolve himself of responsibility,’ added Alavi.
Foy was told he must serve at least 17 years behind bars.
