Derelict site will be turned into flats for elderly people

A former Glasgow care home site will be turned into flats after a proposal was accepted.

As we previously reported, the derelict site on Forfar Avenue, Cardonald, quickly became a hotspot for antisocial behaviour, prompting pleas from desperate residents to tackle the issue.

In 2021, Wheatley Homes entered discussions with the council to redevelop the land.

A year later, a planning application was submitted for 30 new units, including one and two-bed flats, some wheelchair accessible.

Since then, the building has been demolished and now, Glasgow City Council planning officials have approved the proposal.

The Loretto Housing flats will be for over 55s - in a bid to help keep older people in their own homes for as long as possible.

Also included in the plan is an amenity space, parking and mobility scooter storage.

The flats will be created for "elderly and ambulant disabled users".
