A care home in Didcot welcomed the town's fire crew for a free breakfast today.

George, a member of Alma Barn Lodge Care Home's kitchen team, made bacon butties while the crew enjoyed tea and coffee and chatted to residents and staff.

The crew said it was a "lovely breakfast and warm welcome" and that they would let the other crews know "how great the breakfast was".

Care home resident Tommy Martin said it was nice to chat to the fire service and thank them for everything they do.

Home manager Su Heller added: "It was truly wonderful to host Didcot fire crew for Alma Barn Lodge's breakfast, a moment to recognise and appreciate the unwavering service of our dedicated emergency and military personnel.

"Their selfless commitment to keeping our communities safe is a testament to their courage and dedication.

"We are forever grateful for their heroic efforts."

The care home is planning to welcome more emergency service workers in the future, as well as military veterans.

It is one of a number of events to have taken place at the care home recently having welcomed the community for a family fun day earlier this month.

Ms Heller said: “The family fun day was a true celebration of community spirit and togetherness.

"Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces as they enjoyed the various activities and attractions warmed my heart."
