A village and a town in Lancashire have been named among the best places to raise a family in the UK, in a new list by the Daily Mail.

The newspaper said it has approached property experts and looked at surveys and statistics to come up with the list.

Introducing the list, it said: “Choosing where to buy a home and settle down as a family can be one of life's most important decisions.

“The implications on your finances and family's happiness are huge.

“From low crime rates to good schools and local amenities, there are so many boxes to tick that it can be hard to know where to start.”

Lytham St Annes and Burscough in Lancashire have been named among the best places to raise a family and join the likes of Larkhall in Bath, Cardigan in Wales and West End in Dundee which all feature on the list.

What did the Daily Mail say about Lytham St Annes?

The Daily Mail said: “Just two miles from the bright lights of Blackpool and close commuting distance to Manchester, the quaint town on the Fylde coast offers a haven of seaside family living.

“With attractions such as St Annes Beach, Fairhaven Lake, and Ashton Gardens, as well as community events throughout the year, it's a lively place for a family home.”

The average house price in Lytham is £164,813 according to the research.

The Daily Mail highlighted one property that is currently on the market, at the time of writing.

It is a three-bedroom semi-detached family home located in a cul-de-sac with a large garden and a log burner in the living room.

When it comes to schools local to the village, it said: “The town is home to the prestigious King Edward VII School, while Rossall public school is in nearby Cleveleys.”

It also detailed childcare costs with children aged two or above able to attend full-time nursery for £269.74 per week.

It will cost £287.41 for those with children aged under two years old to attend for the same time per week.

What did the Daily Mail say about Burscough?

The Daily Mail said: “This thriving village wedged between Ormskirk and Southport has the best of both urban and rural living.

“There's a lively sense of community and no shortage of green spaces and family activities such as the Martin Mere Wetland Centre.

“As of 2024, the crime rate in Burscough is 26 per cent lower than the north west average and 54 per cent lower than the England average.”

The average house price in Burscough is £247,225 according to the research.

It is a “spacious” four-bedroom detached home with a garden to the front and rear plus off-road parking and a garage.
