A Discovery of Witches has confirmed the involvement of Mission: Impossible – Fallout actor Olivier Huband in season 3, which has already wrapped filming.

The actor, who also had small roles in titles such as Informer and I Hate Suzie, is set to be seen as Portuguese vampire Fernando Gonçalves when the time-hopping fantasy-romance drama returns.

Based on the 'All Souls Trilogy' by author Deborah Harkness, the show follows witch Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer) and bloodsucker Matthew Clairmont (Downton Abbey's Matthew Goode) as they fight to be with one another in the midst of an epic war between their two kinds and demons.

In the third book, titled 'The Book of Life', Fernando is a close acquaintance of Diana's aunt Sarah (Doctor Who's Alex Kingston).

He's also Matthew's brother-in-law – having been romantically involved with Matthew's older sibling Hugh – and somewhat of a stepfather figure to Steven Cree's character Gallowglass.

"Joining the ranks of such a successful and magical show has been an absolute honour and pleasure," Huband told RadioTimes.com. "It has been very surreal becoming a part of such a beloved work of literature.

"To top it off, to play a character of so much depth and soul has been nothing short of magnificent. A real privilege," he continued.

"Fernando and his fantastic wardrobe will always have a place in my heart!"

A Discovery of Witches series 2 is available on Sky and NOW TV – and for those that prefer linear viewing, it will air on Sky One weekly on Fridays at 9pm.
