Disney are hard at work making live-action remakes of all their classic animated movies, having scored mega-hits with Beauty and the Beast and Alice in Wonderland.

One of the projects on the House of Mouse's to-do list is The Sword in the Stone, and since it's not one of their most famous movies, it looks like the studio could be taking a risk.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is going to direct the film, having previously helmed the zombie horror movie 28 Weeks Later.

Game of Thrones writer and producer Bryan Cogman has penned the script for this remake, while Brigham Taylor (who worked on The Jungle Book) is producing.

Disney's animated adaptation of the Arthurian legend focused on a younger Arthur and his adventures as he trained under the grumpy sorcerer Merlin. It's more of a whimsical comedy than a tale of heroics and action, so it'll be interesting to see if the remake keeps that same tone.

The company has come under fire for its handling of the upcoming Aladdin movie, which is being directed by Guy Ritchie.

The studio admitted to hiring white extras and darkening their skin, hiring a non-Arab actress to play Princess Jasmine and creating a new white character for the film.
