Either the Death Star will somehow factor into Star Wars' upcoming Han Solo prequel or director Ron Howard is trolling us.

The latest in an exciting string of on-set teasers shared on the filmmaker's social media accounts features a black helmet, unmistakably worn by The Empire's Death Star troopers in past films, slung over a computer console.

Just to hammer the point home, Howard teased: "The Empire Looms Large."

If this is indeed genuine proof that the Death Star features in the untitled prequel, it might give us a hint that the film is set somewhere around Rogue One and 1977's A New Hope.

Rogue One is set directly before the events of A New Hope, and is based around a band of Rebel Alliance raiders led by Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) that stole plans for the Death Star from The Empire.

Of course, Han first learns of the Death Star in A New Hope, so The Empire's ultimate WMD would presumably have to feature only in the background of the Han Solo film.

There were already rumours that Spencer Wilding, the actor who served as Darth Vader's physical presence in Rogue One, had cancelled a convention appearance to shoot on the Han Solo movie.

However, Wilding quickly downplayed those rumours by insisting in a Facebook blog that he was "100% not" working on Ron Howard's project, explaining that he'd actually been pre-booked for a charity event.

Obviously it's not entirely necessary for Darth Vader to appear on any potential Death Star sequences in Young Han Solo. More CGI Tarkin will surely be fine. (Just kidding.)

Star Wars' Han Solo spin-off hits cinemas on May 25, 2018.
