Newcastle United's continued interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin furthers the possibility of Everton signing Yankuba Minteh this summer to help both clubs comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.

After announcing Tim Iroegbunam as the club's first summer signing from Aston Villa days after engaging in talks with the West Midlands over Lewis Dobbin moving in the opposite direction, the club could now repeat that trick this month.

Much like Everton and Villa, Newcastle have PSR concerns of their own. That is why they are considering offers for Minteh before the winger even plays a game for the club.

The ECHO reported on Saturday afternoon that Newcastle are pushing ahead with their transfer interest in Calvert-Lewin, but they need to sell someone before they buy. The ECHO also understands that Minteh could be moving in the opposite direction.

The 27-year-old only has one year left on his current contract. He has been offered a new deal by the Blues but has yet to put pen to paper. Dobbin's deal, meanwhile, has the same time remaining on it. And while the academy graduate barely featured for the first team last season, Minteh's arrival would offset that departure while being 18 months younger than the player he would be replacing.

That sale, reportedly for a £10m transfer fee, would be deemed "pure profit" in the club's accounts after Dobbin joined the club as an 11-year-old. Calvert-Lewin signed in the summer of 2016 for £1.5m from Sheffield United and, despite not being worth as much as he once was, should still present a profit. Minteh moved to Newcastle for £6m a year ago but is now valued at many times that after a season in the Champions League with Feyenoord.
