What a dope! Drug user caught after blowing cannabis smoke at police officer

HE was no doubt keen not to arouse suspicion.

But one man’s attempt to act casually as he smoked cannabis while strolling down a city street seriously backfired – when he blew smoke in a police officer’s face.

The man was out in central Manchester at around 7.40pm yesterday, and passed a member of the local constabulary just as he was exhaling a cloud of smoke.

The officer said it ‘smelled strongly’ of cannabis.

And when the offender was asked whether he was smoking the drug, he said he was, and admitted he had more in his bag.

The officer searched the man and found he had a joint and a small amount of cannabis on him, the Manchester evening News reports. The 25-year-old was issued with a cannabis warning.

Inspector Phil Spurgeon said: ‘After being issued with a caution the man was sent on his way.

'I can’t believe how stupid he has been to blow smoke in an officer’s face.

'A cannabis warning was the right response in this case but we are taking a firm line on cannabis after all of the issues we have had around Piccadilly and in Piccadilly Gardens.’
