Dozens of 2,500-year-old Coffins Discovered in Egypt

Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered 59 well-preserved 2,500-year-old coffins, with their findings presented to the media on October 3.

The coffins were found in Saqqara, a necropolis in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Memphis.

This video from Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities shows archaeologists being lowered deep into tombs and carefully dusting off the sarcophagi.

The first 13 coffins were found at the site several weeks ago. Experts said that there may still be more yet to be discovered. Credit: Egypt Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities via Storyful
