Dozens Dead or Missing After Capsize of Phuket Tourist Boat

A boat carrying over 100 people capsized off the holiday island of Phuket in Thailand, killing at least 33 people, on July 5. More than 20 people remained missing.

Most of those on board the vessel, named the Phoenix, were Chinese tourists returning from a day trip to the island of Koh Racha, according to the Bangkok Post.

This video was recorded on a vessel belonging to local boat-trip company, Love Andaman. It shows one of the company’s vessels joining the rescue effort.

Speaking to Storyful, a member of the Love Andaman staff said conditions are sea were “mad” with waves between four to six meters high. Rescue operators worked hard to rescue as many people as possible before nightfall. Members of the rescue team swam to those stranded with life vests, flotation devices and ropes.
