Dramatic picture shows HGV overturned as man taken to hospital

A man has been taken to hospital after a lorry overturned in Netherton.

Emergency services were called to Leckwith Road at around 9.10am to reports of the lorry, which had fallen onto its side. The male driver had already exited the vehicle by the time fire service rescue crews arrived, and he was taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said there was "no suggestion of any serious injuries".

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services spokesman said: "We attended an incident this morning on Leckwith Road, Netherton. Crews were alerted at 9.11am and two fire engines and the search and rescue team were on scene shortly after.

"On arrival, crews found one HGV on its side. Once assessed by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), the occupant self-extracted from the vehicle. Fire crews worked to make the scene safe and the casualty was transported to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service. Crews handed the scene over to the site manager and left at 9.55am."
