Drink-driver has a lucky escape after his car is impaled by crash barrier

A car crash in Bedfordshire nearly ended in disaster, after a suspected drink-driver impaled his Land Rover on a crash barrier.

The incident was posted on Twitter by Bedfordshire Police and showed the crash, which happened off the A4146 near Linslade, Bedfordshire.

The Land Rover was left practically unrecognisable by the impact, which saw the heavy metal crash barrier entering the car through the windscreen and impaling it totally, leaving through the rear passenger door.

Miraculously, the male driver was said to be uninjured, but faces a drink-driving charge. There was nobody else in the vehicle.

The officer who took the picture tweeted the incident, adding: "Lucky is an understatement. Fortunately only this vehicle was involved and it contained only the driver (who came out uninjured)."
