Nobody really wants to pay for parking to pick people up at the airport - but some people will go to further lengths than others to avoid it.

This driver might wish he’d just paid the fee though, after being caught by police.

Traffic police in Greater Manchester shared a photo of the Audi that they found stopped on the hard shoulder near the airport, saying: “Driver wanted to avoid parking charges, collecting family”.

But as officers spoke to the driver, they also noticed a few other things, they said.

“Spoken to by #ME54 who also noticed his illegal plates & checks revealed he also had no insurance!,” they added.

“Vehicle seized. Reported for all 3 offences.”

Last year, analysis by the RAC showed that more half of the UK’s biggest airports had increased their parking fees for drivers collecting passengers, with 13 increasing their pick-up parking prices.

London Luton was the worst offender, charging £8 to park at Luton for up to 30 minutes, while Stansted also upped prices, subjecting drivers to an initial charge of £5.50 for just half an hour of parking, and Birmingham charged £5.10 for 30 minutes.
