Drivers of Ford and BMW models issued with two-week warning

Owners of diesel Ford and BMW models have been warned they only have a couple of weeks to launch diesel emission compensation claims. Millions of drivers have been checking if they can bring claims, with the action involving diesel cars and vans made between around 2009 and 2020.

Anyone who had a diesel vehicle made by a number of top manufacturers, including Audi, Citroen, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Seat and VW, during that time period has been urged to check if they might be entitled to a payout. The claims relate to allegations buyers were sold vehicles which cheated emissions tests.

Now, anyone who had or still has a Ford and BMW made between those dates are being warned about a fast-approaching deadline. For Ford, the deadline is Thursday, May 23, followed by BMW on Saturday, June 2.

Experts at Diesel Emission Claim explained: "The High Court has set formal cut-off dates for new claimants coming forward in many of the diesel emission cases – with Ford and BMW coming up first on Thursday, May 23 and Sunday, June 2 respectively. If you don't sign up in time, you may not be able to bring your claim and you could miss out on any compensation you may be due."

They continued: "To move forward with your claim, you will need to be able to provide information regarding ownership of your vehicle. Some examples of suitable evidence include:

  • Your purchase invoice from the garage or dealer you bought the vehicle from

  • Paperwork detailing any finance agreements

  • Details of lease agreements (if applicable)

  • Your Vehicle Order form

  • Details of the Salary Sacrifice agreement with your employer (if relevant)

  • A copy of the Will if you inherited the vehicle

  • V5C (information about the registered keeper)

  • Car insurance details

  • Any formal documents that show evidence of disposal of the vehicle if you no longer have the car

"When you have registered your claim with, you will be provided with a complete list of everything that is needed, as well as guidance and templates to help you gather the evidence if you can’t easily locate it.

"Can you make a diesel car claim for a second hand vehicle? Yes you can still claim. We want to ensure the claim is as inclusive as possible, so all affected drivers have the best chance of receiving compensation.

"If you owned or leased a diesel vehicle between 2008 and 2019, you could be eligible for diesel emission claim compensation against your vehicle manufacturer.

They added: "To find out the engine type of your car, you will need your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This is normally stamped on the lower corner of the windshield on the driver’s side of the car and on the door frame of the driver’s side door.

"Some vehicles might also have their VIN imprinted on a metal plate under the bonnet, near the engine. With this information you can find out your engine model and if you are one of the affected vehicle owners."
