Motorists are just discovering what happens when you press and hold the unlock button on your car key - and it is blowing their minds. However, despite having a cool impact, it could have implications for your vehicle.

A Skoda Octavia owner from Brunei revealed the secret function in a TikTok video, saying: "This is your secret car button. Press and hold the unlock button - until the windows all open by themselves. This only works for some car models. It is very useful when you are on the way to your car on hot days."

To activate this feature, you need to hold down the unlock button for about three seconds.

This revelation follows another motoring enthusiast's disclosure that you can use your key fob to start your engine before even getting into the car. The social media influencer, known as @car_connoisseur or Dom Giovanni, shared a 35-second clip captioned: "Hidden remote start the dealer doesn't tell you about! " His video has garnered over 16,400 comments, with many confirming the trick worked on their cars, although others noted it didn't work with certain models.

Cars that seem to respond to this key fob hack include Fiats and Honda Civics, while the TikTok video features several vehicles including a Mercedes. Dom Giovanni informs viewers about what he refers to as an "option on your car that you definitely have and you probably didn't know about".

He explains: "You actually have a hidden remote start function on your car."

He instructs people to press the "lock" button once and then the "unlock" button twice to get the engine running before even stepping inside. Viewers dropped reactions to the discovery, with one commenter stating: "Just tried it on my 1997 Honda Civic and it worked."

To this, the original uploader responded: "Damn. Honda always ahead of their time."

Another comment reads, "1984 Fiat did work - thank you very much", whilst another communicated to the TikTokker: "It's working on my Fabia 1."

However, not all were impressed with responses like "tried this on my 1992 Daihatsu Rocky and it didn't work", "not Audi" and "doesn't work for Range Rovers".

Additional comments consisted of "not any Toyota" and "Just tried it on my Porsche. Did not work."
