AN 81-year-old man suffered “serious rib injuries” following a crash with a truck.

Greg Condliffe, a retired architect who lives on Sussex Road in Harnham, was driving his Volkswagen Golf on Old Blandford Road when a flatbed truck “shot out” from Shaftesbury Drove and blocked his lane, meaning the Golf went straight into the truck at 40mph.

The passenger, a 65-year-old woman who also suffered injuries to her ribs, was interested in buying the car from Mr Condliffe, and the pair were out on a test drive when the crash happened.

Ambulances and fire crews attended the incident, and Mr Condliffe subsequently spend three days in the Acute Medical Unit in Salisbury Hospital.

According to Mr Condliffe, the driver of the truck “walked away”, with the only damage being to his Volkswagen Golf.

It came just weeks after another crash in the same location involving a motorbike, said Mr Condliffe.

Speaking to the Journal, he also expressed concerns about schoolchildren walking along the road to and from school, “unable to be seen by big lorries”.

Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Police have been contacted for more information.
