Eartha Kitt and Georgia O'Keeffe among famous faces in Tony Vaccaro photography exhibition
From warzones to walk-in wardrobes, the diverse work of photographer Tony Vaccaro will be explored in a new London exhibition.
The 95-year-old photographer will open his first UK in exhibition in more than fifty years at Getty Images Gallery on August 6, which will demonstrate how his subjects have spanned the highs and lows of the 20th century.
American Vaccaro’s career began as a war photographer, secretly taking 8,000 photographs on the front line in the Second World War, having smuggled a camera with him when sent to Europe. During this time, he captured soldiers in combat before developing his film in his helmet, and even photographed the D-Day landings.
He then went on to make a name for himself in the fashion industry, capturing celebrities for high profile magazines including LIFE, Harper’s Bazaar and Newsweek.
Famous faces shown in the London exhibition include Sophia Loren, Pablo Picasso, Eartha Kitt, Hubert de Givenchy, Georgia O’Keeffe and many more.
The exhibition will also include photographs that have never been displayed in public before, and prints of works will be available to purchase from the gallery.
Tony Vaccaro: From Shadow to Light will run at Getty Images Gallery from August 6 to October 27 at Getty Images Gallery. For more information, visit gettyimagesgallery.com
